America’s Cup World Series 2013: Luna Rossa Swordfish Emirates Team New Zealand collision

Seconda giornata delle America’s Cup World Series: collisione tra Luna Rossa ed Emirates Team New Zealand e uomo in mareSecond day at the AC World Series Naples 2013: collision between Luna Rossa and Emirates Team New Zealand and man overboard

During the second day of the America’s Cup World Series, a man fell overboard after the collision between Luna Rossa Swordifish skippered by Checco Bruni and Emirates Team New Zealand, then penalized.

In the collision Swordifish Luna Rossa, who later won the race, damaged the bow, while Emirates team New Zealand has damaged the left hull. Thanks to penalty the Italian boat was able to overcome the New Zealand team and have access to the semi-finals.

Due to the collision the sixth man fell overboard: luckily he was not a guest (it supposed to be Massimiliano Rosolino, then replaced at the last minute by a crew member). The sixth man fell overboard close to a race boat on the circuit and then promptly brought on board of the Medical Boat, where Bergamo Scuba Angels have verified that he was fine and did not need any medical interventions. He asked to be reported on board of Luna Rossa to continue the regatta.

In the second fleet race, the skipper of Artemis Charlie Ekberg, while filming around one of the mark boats, lost control of his boat, which raised on the hulls and hit with violence the bow of the mark boat. The collision have been heard clearly at distance. Neither of the two boats, readily approahed by the Medical Boat, reported damage or injuries.

In the second race the same Checco Bruni was forced to retire due to a technical problem, linked to the previous collision.
